From the M6 Motorway Take Junction 36 following the A590 and signs to Barrow-in-Furness. Upon reaching Ulverston you will pass Hoad Hill with the John Barrow Monument on the top. When you arrive at Ulverston you will come to a mini roundabout with a Booths supermarket to your left. Go straight on at this roundabout and follow the A590 to the next roundabout where you take the third exit heading past the Hartleys Brewery and into the Town Centre. Cross the pedestrian crossing as you pass the Bird in Hand Pub following the road as it bears left then straight on. Cross another two pedestrian crossings and at the second you will come to a small white painted roundabout at the bottom of Soutergate. From here you can either head up the hill to Knottallow Tarn to fish if you already have a ticket or head into the town to Rods N' Sods to purchase your day ticket.
Go straight on at the small painted roundabout at the bottom of Soutergate taking the first exit (almost straight across) signposted to the Gill. Take the first left branch in the road which will take you to Rods' n' Sods tackle shop on your left. Buy your day ticket here and the fishery is cleary marked on your ticket. Alan at the shop will point you in the right direction.
Turn up the hill at the small painted roundabout at the bottom of Soutergate taking the second exit. Take the second left turn off Soutergate onto Old Hall Road and follow this road through the edge of the town and into the countryside. Go up the hill, past Old Hall Farm on your left and as you reach the next set of buildings (past the alpacas on your left) take the next right up the hill toward Boretree Stile. Head up this steep hill until you see Knottallow Tarn on your left.
